Power Platform 2025 Wave 1 - What caught my attention

The latest Power Platform release notes are out and I had a chance to read through them. There is a lot of things in there but here are the changes that caught my eye and you might want to dig more into. If you have time you can of course read them all here

Power Platform

Plan Designer

The idea is to go from business requirements and ideas to the start of a solution. That solution can include applications, and other Power Platform assets like Pages, Flows, Copilots and custom agents. This went into public preview in December and is slated for release in September 2025. It's worth playing with to get an idea of what's coming, don't expect to replace your solution architects just yet. You can see an example of it in action here

Power Apps

Source Code Access for Canvas Apps

This is a step toward better version control and collaboration. With source code access, makers can now manage Canvas Apps in Git-based repositories, making it easier to track changes, enforce governance, and integrate with automated pipelines. It also sets up the ability to refactor the code outside of the designer and in theory it would also setup the ability to generate apps. Look for this to become public preview in May 2025 and release in June 2025.

Power Automate

Copilot-Assisted Expressions

Writing expressions will probably be easier with Copilot-assisted expressions, using the tool it can suggest and refine expressions, making it faster to get your expressions created without having to lookup the Workflow syntax in the reference docs. Try it now in public preview and general availability is targeted to May 2025

Voice Commands for Power Automate Desktop

This allows using your voice to create workflows. In addition to just making it easier to describe what you want it also targets those with accessibility needs. This is targeted to desktop flows but I don't see why they couldn't do the same in cloud flows. Look to try it out in Feb 2025.
